They’re saying that this is a million-to-one shot of two asteroids colliding and breaking up.
But recall that heretical astronomer Tom Van Flandern had a very fruitful theory that many asteroids and comets have a “debris cloud” structure anyway. That said, this could be a picture of two colliding debris clouds, and that would also make it more probable than a million to one I would think.

Not so million-to-one if they were ejected very near each other, possibly oscillating for millions of years only to inevitably be drawn together on a collision course.
